Claim ledger
This site says that every factual claim links to its source. The claims that carry a number, a date, a named study or a quotation are checked here — 466 of them, each with how it was checked and against what.
The ledger is the record of the verification passes the English text went through before the first translations went out: every sentence carrying a number, a date, a named study, a quotation or a specific event was read against the source it cites, and the result written down — including the claims that turned out to be wrong. Sentences of argument are not listed; they are not checkable facts, and the ledger says so with its own letter. What was corrected is also in the corrections log, which says what the page used to claim.
This page is built from the ledger file itself every time the site is published, so it cannot drift from it, and a check fails the build if it ever does.
The five letters
Each claim carries at least one status letter, in the ledger's own words:
| Letter | What it means | Claims |
|---|---|---|
| P | Verified against the primary source (the paper, ruling, report, filing or company statement itself) in September 2026. | 300 |
| S | Verified against an institutional or reputable secondary account (press release, university news, established press), because the primary source is paywalled or not online. | 42 |
| C | Was wrong or overstated; corrected in this pass. What changed is in CORRECTIONS.md. | 180 |
| V | A vendor, advocacy-group or self-reported figure. Kept because it is the only figure, and labelled as such on the page. | 12 |
| O | Framing, argument or opinion, not a checkable fact. Reviewers judge these for fairness, not accuracy. | 10 |
A few claims carry two letters — a figure verified against a primary source and also corrected, say — so the counts add up to more than 466.
Claims with a shelf life
Some claims are true when checked and will not stay true: a case under appeal, a count that moves every month, a price that drifts. Each of these 28 is re-checked against its own source on or before the date below. A re-check that only refreshes a number is recorded in the change log; one that finds a claim has become wrong goes in the corrections log as well.

Help-line numbers, hours and cost — every entry in src/data/resources.mjs that prints a number or hours, and first the international layer of 23 Sept 2026 (BR 188, EG 16328, IN 14416, MX 800 911 2000, SA 937; Find A Helpline's country and topic coverage; F.E.A.S.T.; econsumer.gov) | 23 Sept 2026 | Added with the layer. Two caveats to carry forward: EG 16328's cost is still unread (the ministry page does not state it), and SA 937 is not a suicide line — if a later source lets either be stated, state it then, not before. SA 937's "psychological" (dropped 19 Oct 2026, restored 22 Oct 2026, #153) rests on the NCMH FAQ (ncmh.org.sa/faqs, through its public API), not on an MOH page: re-read it at each re-check, and drop the word again if it no longer says so. Added 19 Oct 2026 (#147): 112 India moved to mha.gov.in/emergency-response-support-system-erss; Action Fraud → Report Fraud; cybercrime.gov.in bare host times out from outside India (the www host answers); actionfraud.police.uk, reportfraud.police.uk, internetmatters.org and dnsc.ro answer 403 to automated clients — hand-check before removing; Offlimits' contact page and home page give different hours; Get Help prints only the hours both agree on, Mon–Thu 07:00–23:00, Fri 09:00–17:00, Sun 10:00–18:00 (card offlimits-hours = b, 19 Oct 2026) — widen them if Offlimits confirms the contact page's Mon–Sat 07:00–23:00 | each organisation's own page or government portal, as listed above; the country dossiers in docs/research/ | 23 Mar 2027 |

The organisations roster — that every organisation named on Organisations still exists and still does what the page and src/data/resources.mjs say (First Draft closed in 2022 and had to be replaced by Information Futures Lab; the CvdM roadmap will be followed by enforcement steps) | 23 Sept 2026 | Ecosystem merged into Organisations; the five closest organisations now render from the registry, so their links are covered by node scripts/check-resources.mjs --live | each organisation's own site; node scripts/check-resources.mjs --live | 23 Mar 2027 |
| Ofcom's "highly effective age assurance" method list and criteria (Yes, but… "Age checks just mean everyone has to hand over their ID") | 23 Sept 2026 | Added; the list and the four criteria are as published, and Ofcom says numerical accuracy thresholds may be added later | Ofcom, Age checks to protect children online | 23 Mar 2027 |

Corrected in the same pass: the KvK fee is €85.15, not €82; Ecosia anonymises the IP address after a maximum of seven days and passes the IP address and search terms to its search partner (this sentence said "deletes … sends it obfuscated, never with the query" until 19 Oct 2026, from a 2022 mirror of the policy; CORRECTIONS.md); Firefox's maker is a taxable subsidiary; Safari never had Google's restriction, uBO simply stopped supporting it | the vendors' own pricing and support pages; uBlock Origin's wiki; KVK Inschrijfvergoeding; a notary quote | 23 Mar 2027 |

| GDPR fines under appeal — the DPC's imposed and collected totals, every Big Tech fine "Pending Appeal" or "Not Confirmed"; Amazon's €746m annulled and back with the CNPD (GDPR) | 15 Oct 2026 | Added with the turnover comparison; the CNPD may decide a new sanction, and Irish appeals (Meta €1.2bn, TikTok €530m) may be decided | DPC Fines page; justice.public.lu and cnpd.public.lu | 15 Apr 2027 |

A live link check can fail on a link that works. Two of the government pages behind the help-line rows — www.mohp.gov.eg (Egypt) and telemanas.mohfw.gov.in (India) — serve an incomplete certificate chain. Browsers and curl fetch the missing intermediate and accept them; Node's fetch does not, so node scripts/check-resources.mjs --live reports them as unreachable (TypeError / UNABLE_TO_VERIFY_LEAF_SIGNATURE). Both answered 200 to curl on 23 September 2026 and both carry their help line's number. The Egyptian dossier warns of a second, different failure for the same host family: some Egyptian government sites refuse connections from outside Egypt. Neither is a dead link — check by hand before removing an entry a live run flags.
The ledger, page by page
Grouped as the ledger groups them — by section of the site, then by page. The claim is given as the ledger records it, in the shorthand of someone checking it against a document, not as the page words it.
Each claim has a permanent number, from C-001 on, and the number is a link to the claim itself — C-042, for instance — so a claim can be cited by its number or its address. A number always means the same claim: when a claim is corrected it keeps its number, and when one is removed its number is not given to another.

What the ledger does not settle
A letter says how a claim was checked, not that the argument around it is right. An O is framing, and framing is judged for fairness, not accuracy. A V is a figure its own subject reported, kept only where it is the only figure there is, and labelled as such on the page it appears on. And a ledger records what was checked, not what was missed: if you find a claim that is not here, or a source that does not say what the page says it says, tell us — that is the most useful thing a reader can send.
